20140822_1354_2851 "for where two or three are gathered together in my Name, there [God] is in the midst of them." (wildflowers. 翠华山 CuiHuaShan, Shaanxi, China). When Paul travelled around the known Mediterranean world in the first century A.D., he sometimes joined and then sometimes travelled apart from his companions in his missionary journeys. Sometimes the reasons for the change in travelling arrangements is strategic, at other times accidental, occasions of sadness or even unhappy. Though any positive aspect of plan changes is not always apparent, or only 'seen through the mirror darkly', the companions continued to let God work through them as Christ's ambassadors wherever they were. Have, in concert with fellow workers, been very blessed in the past week during talks to experienced village doctors, a (previously unscheduled) talk to new university students, and an afternoon free village clinic. Be it with the voice of angels, the slow speech and tongue of Moses, or deed in charitable affection, let Christ beseech through us.
20140804_1052_2472 Chinglish promises suspension of the laws of physics at Baiyun Airport, Guangzhou. When things are going suprisingly well; overnight transport and multiple bus/train trips have all arrived on time, without incident or sickness; and to be greeted by cute and adorable kids with chronic conditions such as HIV; it is great reason for praise! It is a great blessing to have my falls broken by angels, and further blessings if that continued whatever hazard I might risk. But to assume that such fortune is one's natural right could be a misinterpretation of His will, just as the English translation pictured doesn't really reflect the original intent. Hoping for humility at all times and rightful respect to His wonderful design and purpose!
20140803_2128_0473 The Chinese experience starts at Melbourne Airport. The situation sometimes changes so rapidly in developing countries it is hard to know what to expect as each year comes. In some passages of the old testament there was a time when the Israelites entering Canaan won a victory because their opponents thought they would run away like the last time. It is often said that generals always 'fight the previous war'. Hoping that I and others can be more adaptable than that, and can bring to bear both wisdom and flexibility to each situation.
