20080922_0004 Nie Er statue. Composer of mainland China's national anthem. We took the number 5 bus which runs along the road outside the Camellia Hotel (but needed to walk quite a few metres to find the bus stop). The number 5 bus stops at a terminus (Liangjiahe). Instead of taking bus 6, we found a minibus quite close to Liangjiahe. The spruikers for the bus held billboards advertising their services in Chinese, but not in English. These minibuses go all the way up to the tomb of Nie Er (and also the base of the chairlift), and so are much more convenient than taking the number 5 bus, which stops at the entrance of the Western Hills (XiShan). Many locals were using these minibuses, and I think the minibus fare includes the Western Hills entrance fee.
